Moccasin Flats: Redemption
Moccasin Flats: Redemption revisits the series main
character Red (Ron Harris), an ex-junkie who, after doing
time for a crime he says he didn't commit, returns to the
pressure cooker that is The Flats, a community hotly debated
as being Canada's Worst Neighbourhood, only to find himself
in the midst of gang activity brewing on the verge of an all-out
war. Red must try and reconcile with his horrific past with
the help of a homeless child, his ex-girlfriend, a halfway
house counselor and a quiet elder while struggling to remain
sober and on the right path in life.
Synopsis
Fresh out of prison and back in Moccasin Flats, Red is friendless, penniless and aimless. His only support should be at the halfway house but even that feels like a hostile environment. He is a social pariah, seen only as a junkie and petty thief. He has fallen far from the respected rapper that everyone admired not so long ago. But even two years in prison couldn’t quell the anger that people feel towards him for the crime that put him away brutally attacking a respected community elder.
In Red’s mind, he didn’t commit the crime alone and it was fuelled by his addiction to crystal meth, an addiction he manages to stave off despite a daily need to feel the rush. But when he reaches out to his ex-girlfriend Candy, he realizes that it will take a lot more work and self-realization to understand the true depth and effects of his crimes. There will be no salvation for Red until he faces up to his past.
As Red is faced with the onslaught of anger and resentment aimed at him, the increasing pressure-cooker of gang wars in the hood and his need for drugs, he finds himself becoming entwined in a web of murder and deceit that becomes unraveled through the clues left behind by a homeless native boy, who also turns out to be Red’s only friend.
Red discovers that it is selflessness and accepting the help of those who offer it to him that are the keys to healing, acceptance and ultimately, Redemption.
